Overview

Goethals Memorial School (GMS) is an Edmund Rice educational institution run by the Congregation of Christian Brothers.  The school was founded in 1907, and is named after Jesuit Archbishop of Calcutta, Paul Goethals. The land for the school was donated by the Maharaja of Bardhaman and is situated 5km from Kurseong town, between Siliguri and Darjeeling. It is a residential cum day school, affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi. It offers education to boys from class II through class X with English as the medium of instruction.

Campus

The school campus offers spacious classrooms, computer laboratory with more than 60 computers having the latest configurations, and well equipped science labs with modern instruments.

 

The Goethals library offers selected books by many acclaimed authors – both Indian as well as western. Students are permitted to visit the library class-wise twice a week to exchange books under the supervision of a librarian.

 

The campus offers world class facilities for sports and athletics.

 

A spacious auditorium is also present and it is in this auditorium that competitions like debate, quiz, elocution, spell-bee and performances include singing, dancing, concerts and skits are performed.

Accomodation

The hostel has been divided into three sections - the senior section, junior section and the middle school section, and provides all modern facilities such as a study hall, a chapel, indoor gaming facilities, large spacious fields providing ample opportunities for sports and games, and round the clock medical facility. 

Academics

The school is affiliated to CISCE and prepares students for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) examinations in class X.

 

The medium of instruction is in English  and the subjects offered are English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, History, Geography, Economic application, Environmental education, Computer Application, Nepali, Hindi, Bengali, art and craft.

 

Extracurricular:

 

GMS actively encourages extracurricular activities such as soccer, cricket, basketball, volleyball, athletics, table-tennis, chess, and carom, besides debates, concerts, elocution, quiz and community service program. 

Admission

The admission forms for classes II, III, IV and V are available on the school website and admissions office in the month of May for the following academic year. Admission forms for other classes are available in the month of October. The school does not admit boys in classes VII, IX and X.


Admission is deemed to be formally completed when the duly filled admission form has been submitted to the school admissions office along with the transfer certificate from the school last attended and attested copy of the birth certificate. On confirmation of admission the school dues need to be paid.


Fees: The composite school fee for boarders varies from  Rs 1, 14, 532 to  Rs 1, 19, 032, depending on the class. For day boarders the fee varies from Rs 36, 823 - 40, 832 depending on the class.


The fees are increased by 10% every year.
