Overview

The Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar, owes its origin to a social contract between the Government of Orissa and the OJS (Orissa Jesuit Society). The management of the institute is in the hands of a governing board, comprising representatives from the Jesuit Society, Government of India, Government of Orissa and eminent industrialists and educationists.

 

Since its inception in 1987, XIMB has focused on quality and rigorous education, academic infrastructure, technology and innovation.

 

The mission of XIMB is to continue to be an institute with a difference by developing competent, committed and compassionate leaders through management education, knowledge generation and dissemination, capacity building, technology-enabled learning and organizational development.

 

XIMB was ranked No.12 among top B-schools in India the Education World C-fore survey, 2012.

Campus

The school is sited on a 20-acre campus in Bhubaneswar’s institutional area, with classrooms, hostels, studio apartments, gym, a sports club and a multi-purpose auditorium. The campus network is supported by a fiber optic backbone and 100 MBPS ethernet technology and the latest Wi-Fi technology.

 

XIMB has four administrative and academic buildings. The institute has state-of-the-art classroom facilities with audio-video systems, overhead LCD projectors, computers/laptops, wireless hotspots and PA systems with cordless microphones. There are five large class rooms (with a capacity of 120), 10 medium class rooms (capacity 60), eight syndicate rooms (capacity 30 each), and five training halls. The video conferencing class room is equipped with camera, 50-inch LCD TV, LCD projectors, OHPs, and PA systems with cordless microphones.

 

The campus network is based on a fiber optic back bone and 100 MBPS ethernet technology. The campus network covers the institute, classrooms, library, hostels and the faculty living quarters sprawling over an area of 20 acres. All student, faculty and staff computers are interconnected by an optic fiber back bone network. Each PGDM, PGDM-HRM and PGDM-RM student has a notebook which allows him or her to access all the resources available in the campus network and the internet round the clock.

 

The computer center has over 300 atom-based PCs, 50 thin clients, 15 Pentium4 PCs, printers, scanner, digital cameras. The software library has over 100 applications covering office suites, compilers, development software, internet software, statistics and operation research.

 

The XIMB library has an ever-increasing collection of books, journals, audio-visuals, working papers, annual reports, and summer projects. Besides the print materials, the XIMB library has various electronic resources in the form of corporate and economic databases (Indian/international) like EBSCO Publishing, ProQuest, JSTOR, ELSEVIER(ScienceDirect), ISI Emerging Markets Databases, CMIE Database, ACM Digital Library, IEEE Computer Society Journals, Open Access Journals, SAGE Publications, EPW, IndiaStat, and Blackwell Reference.

 

The institute has ultra-modern six floored studio apartments built over and area of 14,000 square feet. The apartments are designed using modern architecture and equipped with all the facilities.

 

The faculty quarters are two-bedroom apartments with a large dining-cum-drawing hall and two toilets. Each house has a network connection.

 

There is an indoor badminton court, a volleyball court, a floodlit basketball court, two floodlit tennis courts, a state-of-the-art multipurpose gymnasium, and a huge green field for cricket and football. The multipurpose hall has facilities for table tennis and carrom, and a home theater system equipped with VCD player. 

Accomodation

There are six student hostels with a combined capacity of 480 seats. The hostel is a part of the campus network. Each room has a network point with access to the campus resources and the internet. The hostels are also connected with Wi-Fi hotspots. The hostel houses the mess, the book club etc. The hostel has a STD booth, photocopy center, and a network printer.

 

A cafe provides a variety of fast foods to students who work till late in the night. Several washing machines have also been installed for the use of students. A high quality water purifier is available on each floor of the hostel building in each hostel.

 

Executive Hostel

The executive hostel has 48 air-conditioned rooms with attached toilets. The rooms are furnished with functional furniture and connected to both Wi-Fi and 100 MBPS Ethernet LAN.

Admission

For PG Programs

Eligibility

The minimum requirement for admission to the PG programs is a three-year Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in any discipline with at least 50 percentage marks in aggregate from a recognized university/deemed university. Candidates who expect to complete the final part of their degree examinations can also apply. Offers of admission to such candidates, if made, will be provisional and will be automatically cancelled in the event of their failing to complete all the requirements for obtaining the degree.

 

Applicants are required to take either XAT conducted by XLRI, Jamshedpur, or CAT conducted by the IIMs. Applicants have to follow XAT/CAT advertisements respectively and apply in time. Registering for XAT/CAT is a prerequisite for applying to XIMB.

 

For Fellow Program in Management

Eligibility

Post-graduates in any discipline (or professional field) related to management with at least 55 percentage marks (or working graduate engineers with at least 55 percentage marks, having at least 2 years of work experience) are eligible to apply for the full-time FPM. The institute prefers applicants who have excellent academic record as well as rich managerial experience.

 

The institute offers admission to five candidates in an academic year. The applicant must write any one of the following written tests: CAT, UGC NET, XAT, GATE,* or the XIMB Research Aptitude Test (XIMB-RAT). For the purpose of FPM admission, valid CAT, GATE* and XAT scores will be considered. XIMB-RAT will be conducted only at Bhubaneswar. Based on their performance in the written test as well as their academic and professional achievements, a selected group of applicants will be invited to the institute’s campus at Bhubaneswar for an assessment of their research aptitude and preparedness for taking up doctoral-level work in management. All the invited applicants will be offered local hospitality, but no travel allowance.

 

*GATE score is considered for admission in Operations Management & Decision Sciences and Information Systems areas only.
