Three students from Chandigarh University will represent India at the Paris Paralympic Games 2024, held from August 28 to September 8. Aruna Tanwar (taekwondo), Palak Kohli (badminton), and Yash Kumar (kayaking) secured their spots through exceptional performances in national and international competitions.
Aruna Tanwar, competing in the K43 category, won a gold medal at the Asian Para Taekwondo Qualifiers in March 2024, earning her second Paralympic appearance. Palak Kohli, a BBA student, secured bronze at the World Para Badminton Championship in February 2024 and will compete in badminton. Yash Kumar, a para kayaker, qualified for his first Paralympic Games after winning gold and silver at the Asian Para Kayaking Championship in April 2024.
Chandigarh University has a strong record of nurturing athletes, with students winning 134 medals in various national and international competitions in 2023–24. The university also secured the top rank at the Khelo India University Games 2024, with 32 gold, 18 silver, and 21 bronze medals.
Chancellor Satnam Singh Sandhu congratulated the students and emphasized CU’s commitment to sports excellence, including a budget of Rs. 8.5 crore for sports development and scholarships.
