51 schools destroyed, 1057 partially damaged due to heavy rains: HP government in assembly

In response to a question during the assembly session on Tuesday, Education Minister Rohit Thakur reported that heavy monsoon rains in Himachal Pradesh this year resulted in the destruction of 51 school buildings and partial damage to 1,057 others, estimating a total loss of Rs 69.27 crore. He assured that the completely destroyed structures would be prioritized for reconstruction, with additional funds being sought. The minister also mentioned that the phased construction of partially damaged buildings is planned. Emphasizing student safety, Thakur highlighted the need for a survey of damaged buildings, addressing unsafe structures on a priority basis to avoid risks during classes. The affected schools enroll a total of 19,101 students.

In another update, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh informed the assembly that the Parwanoo Industrial area in Solan district would be connected to National Highway 5, with a Detailed Project Report (DPR) estimating a cost of Rs 2.62 crore.

Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi addressed pending cases related to providing land to landless individuals for house construction. He reported that 752 cases were pending, with the highest number in Una district (273), followed by Mandi (217), Solan (114), Chamba (42), Bilaspur (39), Kullu (36), Kinnaur (14), Shimla (12), and Kangra (5).
