65 percent of NIE Mysore students bag pre-placement offers

According to the placement numbers released on September 18 by the National Institute of Engineering (NIE), Mysore’s placements office, the institute has witnessed a tripling of the number of firms showing interest in hiring students compared to the previous year.

The campus pre-placements this year saw participation and offers from 42 domestic and global companies. Further, there was conversion of six internship offers to regular placement after the completion of summer internship. The average salary is ₹6.5 lakh per annum and has increased by 10 percent compared to the previous year with the highest CTC on offer being ₹25.18 lakh per year.

NIE Mysore has emerged as a preferred campus for recruiters especially because of its industry focused curriculum.

Commenting on the record placements, Dr G. Ravi, principal, NIE Mysore, said, “We have been concerned about reports that the job market is slowing down for engineers. We are happy that companies who have become choosy about campuses they visit, have chosen NIE to visit. They made early bets on students who interned with them. It confirms my belief that there is no shortage of jobs for well-trained engineers from colleges like NIE. We will lay further emphasis on internships to make students employable. NIE is looking forward to a strong placement year”.

Shedding light on the gradual growth in the placements, Harshith Divakar, Training and Placement officer, NIE Mysuru said, “India’s job market is finally seeming to be warming up. Campus placements have improved compared to last year. NIE has improved 40 percent of campus placements compared to last year. NIE is likely to overtake overall number of placements of 2017-18 batch in the first three months of recruitments. Many first time recruiters are making domestic and global job offers. There is a 15 to 20 percent hike in the salary offered by several organisations. This tells us that NIE students have adapted to the major technological trends in India. There is also huge shift from hiring graduate resource to more skilled resource. We are closely observing value hires rather than volume hires. In fact, the employers participated are happy by certain best practices followed by NIE like six-month internship and industry driven electives”.

Promoted in 1946 and granted autonomy in 2007, NIE Mysore has emerged as one of the premier Engineering institutes in Karnataka.
