Ladakh lieutenant governor Kavinder Gupta has called for inclusive education in monastic institutions, urging the integration of mainstream subjects with religious studies to create a more diverse learning environment in the Union Territory.
During a meeting with delegations from the Ladakh Buddhist Association and Ladakh Gonpa Association, Gupta emphasised the appointment of adequate and qualified teachers in Gompa schools to ensure young monks receive quality education. He also advocated vocational training to make them self-sufficient.
The LG assured that recruitment rules would be strengthened to ensure only qualified candidates are appointed, thereby improving Ladakh’s education system. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to green energy, underlining efforts to make the region carbon-neutral and promote renewable energy initiatives.
In a separate meeting, UNESCO GRO–Geothermal Training Programme fellow Kunzes Dolma briefed the LG on training opportunities in geothermal energy, gender equality studies, fisheries and other fields in Iceland, fully sponsored by the Icelandic government.
Chairing a review meeting later, Gupta directed officials to ensure year-round potable water supply to rural households under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) through functional household tap connections. He called for community accountability, timely user fee collection, and penalties for defaulters, along with measures to remove bogus ration cards to prevent misuse of subsidised food.
