Pathankot district administration has declared a holiday for all educational institutions on Monday (25 August) following incessant rainfall that has caused flooding concerns in the region.
According to officials, several villages near the India-Pakistan border have been affected after the water level in the Ujh and Ravi rivers, as well as seasonal rivulets, rose sharply due to heavy downpours in neighbouring Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.
“Keeping in mind the continuous rains in Pathankot district, a holiday is declared in all government/non-government schools, colleges and other educational institutions of Pathankot district on August 25,” the order issued by Deputy Commissioner Aditya Uppal stated.
Punjab Cabinet minister Lal Chand Kataruchak visited the affected areas on Sunday to assess the situation and assured residents that the state government would provide compensation for any losses incurred.
Officials warned that with rivers and rivulets in full spate, the situation in low-lying villages along the Indo-Pak border remains grim.
