AI Samarth, a national initiative on artificial intelligence literacy in schools, has announced the appointment of Neerja Birla, Founder and Chairperson of the Aditya Birla Education Trust, to its Expert Advisory Panel.
A joint project of IIT Madras and Central Square Foundation, supported by Google, AI Samarth aims to equip over five million students, parents and educators with the knowledge and skills to navigate an increasingly AI-driven world.
At its recent Conclave in New Delhi, attended by representatives from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Electronics and IT, NITI Aayog, UNESCO, the Gates Foundation and leading academics, the programme reaffirmed the need to integrate safe and inclusive AI education into school curricula.
Birla, a long-standing advocate for holistic education and mental health, will help shape the curriculum and strategic direction of AI Samarth. “Every learner in Bharat deserves the awareness and confidence to engage with artificial intelligence meaningfully,” she said, stressing the importance of ethics, context and human agency in AI literacy.
The initiative is already active across 11 states, with growing support from public and private institutions. Guided by its expert panel, AI Samarth seeks to ensure that AI education in India remains impactful, inclusive and aligned with the country’s evolving education priorities.
