Monash University, Australia, and Mahindra University, Hyderabad, have announced new joint degree programmes in Mechanical, Civil and Electrical Engineering, enabling students to graduate with bachelor’s degrees from both institutions.
Under the partnership, students will begin their studies at Mahindra University before transferring to Monash to complete their final year, with the first cohort expected to commence in July 2026.
Professor Adrian Neild, Deputy Dean of Enterprise at Monash’s Faculty of Engineering, said the collaboration would strengthen both universities while advancing the objectives of India’s National Education Policy (NEP). “The NEP promotes an entrepreneurial mindset. Monash Engineering, with its industry focus and world-leading research facilities, is the ideal partner to provide students with this exposure,” he noted.
Mahindra University vice-chancellor Dr Yajulu Medury described the tie-up as a gateway to global opportunities. “This collaboration goes beyond student exchange. It sets the stage for our faculty to work together, share ideas, and build knowledge with real-world impact,” he said.
Professor Craig Jeffrey, deputy vice-chancellor (International) at Monash, emphasised that the initiative aligns with Monash’s India Plan, launched last year. “Our collaboration with Mahindra University is a direct response to the NEP 2020’s call to think beyond borders, offering students a world-class education that is both Indian in foundation and global in outlook,” he said.
Monash Engineering is currently ranked second in Australia and 59th globally in the Times Higher Education 2025 subject rankings.
