The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IIT-Madras) to foster technological innovation and collaborative research in education.
The partnership aims to harness cutting-edge technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) to enhance access, inclusivity, and quality across India’s educational landscape.
“This collaborative effort is crucial for realising the vision and goals of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the new National Curriculum Framework,” said School Education Secretary Sanjay Kumar. He added that all textbooks must be digitised and made available in 22 scheduled languages to promote learning in children’s mother tongues.
Highlighting the growing role of technology in education, Kumar noted that IIT Madras, as one of India’s leading technology institutions, will play a key role in developing content based on gamification, animation, videos, and extended reality. “Personalised Adaptive Learning (PAL) needs to be integrated, and strong pedagogical and technological tools must be created to design lesson plans and assessments using AI,” he said.
Under the MoU, NCERT and IIT-Madras will collaborate on multiple fronts, including high-quality content creation, continuous professional development for teachers, technology integration, AI/ML-enabled learning solutions, and the promotion of multilingual and inclusive learning platforms.
“This collaboration represents a significant step towards realising the vision of NEP 2020 by harnessing technology for accessible and inclusive education,” said NCERT Chairman Dinesh Saklani.
