A joint agreement was signed recently between Maharashtra and the German state of Baden-Württemberg to strengthen cooperation in the field of nursing, by providing an opportunity for nursing students from Maharashtra to train in Germany.
Madhuri Misal, minister of state for medical education, Maharashtra and Manfred Lucha, minister of social affairs, health and integration for the state of Baden-Württemberg, signed the joint declaration in the state guest house at Malabar Hill, Mumbai.
The signing ceremony was attended by secretary, Department of Medical Education Dheeraj Kumar; commissioner of medical education Dr. Anil Bhandari; director, Directorate of Medical Education and Research Dr. Ajay Chandanwale; and joint secretary, Department of Medical Education Dr. Suvarna Kharat along with a large high-level delegation from the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Integration, Baden-Württemberg.
The main objective of the programme is to strengthen international partnerships in the healthcare and nursing sectors between Maharashtra and Baden-Württemberg.
The agreement will focus on building trained nursing manpower for high-quality healthcare.
Minister Misal said that the joint agreement includes language training, advanced skills development and facilitation of certificate recognition for nurses taking up employment in Germany.
“The aim is to raise the quality of education to the international level by implementing student- faculty exchanges, joint training, study tours and research activities between nursing educational institutions, universities and training centers in both the states.”
German minister Manfred Lukha said plans are underway “to increase cooperation in the nursing and healthcare sectors of the two states. Special emphasis will be placed on expanding skill-based healthcare , promoting research and providing employment opportunities.”
The German delegation toured Maharashtra from November 30 to December 6, 2025.
