A tireless crusader for sustained collective enterprise and for elevating teaching-learning standards in technical education, Shri Babubhai Vanmalibhai Patel has devoted several decades to transforming the agricultural, educational, and social landscape of South Gujarat. His career trajectory from a modest background to regional prominence is testament to his self-learning, perseverance, and deep sense of community service. 

Steadfastly supported by his wife Smt. Gangaben and his family, Shri Babubhai’s contribution to Gujarat’s agriculture cooperative movement has been transformative. As Founder-President of the Federation of Irrigation Societies in the Ukai-Kakrapar command area, he played a pivotal role in modernising irrigation infrastructure. His leadership enabled equitable, timely water distribution to farmers, significantly enhancing agricultural productivity in the region. He extended the same leadership skills to agro-industrial development as Vice President of Bardoli Sugar Mill, and as Founder-President of Vihan Vibhag Bagayat Sahkari Mandli, transforming the latter into a robust horticultural cooperative functioning smoothly for three decades. Moreover, his aid and advice to multiple cooperative societies reflects a lifelong commitment to strengthening rural economies through collective enterprise.

However, Shri Babubhai’s most valuable contribution is to technical education as President of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Education Society (SVPES, estb.1996), Isroli-Bardoli. Since its registration in 1996, SVPES has promoted the flagship NG Patel Polytechnic (estb.1997) — the first polytechnic in Surat district’s educationally underserved Bardoli region — followed by R.N.G. Patel Institute of Technology (RNGPIT, estb.2010), and most recently, SVPES College of Pharmacy in 2025.

Under his stewardship in 2024, RNGPIT was granted autonomous status under the UGC Act, making it the first autonomous technology institute in South Gujarat (pop. 11.7 million). This milestone empowered the institution to design innovative curricula to drive academic excellence. Currently, RNGPIT offers over 25 study programs including B.Tech, MBA, Integrated M.Sc (IT), and industry-aligned Bachelor of Vocation programs in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Renewable Energy, and VFX.

Since then over the past 15 years, RNGPIT has become the first technology education institution in India to receive the 5S Workplace Management Certification from the Union of Japanese Scientists and Engineers (JUSE) and to be awarded 100 percent NBA accreditation across all its engineering programs. Likewise, NG Patel Polytechnic has also secured full NBA accreditation, ensuring consistent academic standards across SVPES institutions.

Beyond academics, Shri Babubhai has championed sustainability and infrastructure development across all SVPES and neighbouring education institutions. The SVPES campus is a well-equipped, self-sustaining educational hub powered by solar energy, and supplementary innovative initiatives such as large-scale mango plantations.

In appreciation and acknowledgement of his sustained effort towards contemporisation of technical education in Gujarat, his visionary leadership, integrity, and lifelong dedication to community upliftment, the Editors and Board of Directors of EducationWorld are pleased to present Shri Babubhai Vanmalibhai Patel the EW Lifetime Achievement in Education Leadership Award and induct him into the EW Hall of Fame of Indian education.
