Job opportunities in India’s education sector rose nearly 14 per cent between July 2025 and July 2026, according to a survey by job portal Indeed, with Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu emerging as the biggest markets for education-related hiring.

The data points to a growing preference for flexible employment arrangements. While full-time education-sector job postings increased by nearly 14 per cent year-on-year, contract positions surged almost 40 per cent. Part-time opportunities also grew by nearly 28 per cent during the period.

Teaching-related hiring showed signs of a sustained recovery. Job postings for teaching roles fell to their lowest point in October 2025 but began a steady recovery from January 2026. By July 2026, teaching vacancies had reached their highest level in the 12-month period, marking nine consecutive months of growth.

The trend suggests rising demand for flexible staffing models, particularly for specialised roles and in response to changing learning requirements. Language-teaching roles also recorded notable growth. German teaching job postings saw the sharpest increase, rising 22.8 per cent over the year. English teaching opportunities grew 20 per cent, while Hindi teaching postings increased 16.7 per cent. French teaching roles registered an 8.2 per cent rise.

Maharashtra accounted for the largest share of education-sector job postings on Indeed as of July 2026, at 14.3 per cent of the total. Tamil Nadu followed closely at 14.2 per cent. Karnataka accounted for 11.8 per cent of postings, while Kerala contributed 10 per cent. Together, the four states represented more than half of the education-sector job postings analysed. Uttar Pradesh and Telangana were also among the major hiring markets, accounting for 6.7 per cent and 6.3 per cent of postings, respectively.

Demand for regional educators is growing steadily alongside English. Whether people are looking outward to international opportunities or looking inward to expand local reach, language learning in India is thriving across every front.”
