The University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) has received a Letter of Intent (LOI) from the University Grants Commission (UGC) to establish a campus in Hyderabad, with the first cohort expected to begin in August 2027.
The campus will be the first degree-granting location in India by an American public university and the first foreign university campus in Telangana.
CU Denver | Hyderabad will initially offer programmes in business, computing, engineering and analytics, with a focus on applied learning, interdisciplinary education and career readiness. The initiative is aligned with the priorities of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, including multidisciplinary education, internationalisation and learner outcomes.
Global education company Emeritus will serve as CU Denver’s strategic joint venture partner in India, supporting the university’s establishment and growth through non-academic functions.
Kenneth T. Christensen, Chancellor of CU Denver, said the Hyderabad campus would extend the university’s longstanding connection with Indian students while combining academic learning with career-aligned and real-world experience.
CU Denver, established in 1973, serves around 14,000 students and has more than 100,000 alumni across over 100 countries. It is classified as an R1 research institution by the Carnegie Commission on Higher Education.
The university will continue regulatory processes and consultations with academic, industry and other stakeholders ahead of the proposed August 2027 launch. Additional programmes will be proposed to the UGC for approval from the second year onwards.
