NIIT University (NU) has launched an AI Centre of Excellence to strengthen its focus on artificial intelligence, data science and AI-led research and innovation. The facility provides students, faculty and research scholars with access to enterprise-grade GPU computing and industry-standard AI tools.
Powered by NVIDIA technologies, the Centre is equipped with three YodaEdge devices supporting up to 30 concurrent users. It will serve as a high-performance computing hub for machine learning, deep learning, Edge AI, generative AI, agentic AI and data-intensive research.
The facility will enable students and researchers to work on applications including computer vision, natural language processing, large language models, intelligent IoT systems, predictive analytics and smart healthcare. It will also support faculty development programmes, technical workshops, hackathons, industry interactions and startup incubation.
The Centre’s technology stack includes NVIDIA DGX YodaEdge systems, NVIDIA NeMo, NVIDIA NIM Microservices, PyTorch and JupyterLab. Students will use the infrastructure to build generative AI applications, agentic AI systems, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines, multimodal AI applications, robotics and perception systems.
Prof. Prakash Gopalan, President, NIIT University, said the Centre reflects the university’s focus on experiential learning by giving students access to infrastructure used in enterprise AI environments from the beginning of their degree programmes.
NU integrates practical learning across its programmes through industry projects, summer internships and its six-month Industry Practice programme. The university states that 35 per cent of its BTech curriculum is dedicated to hands-on learning, with industry engagement facilitated through its Centre for Industrial Collaboration.
