Nearly 21 lakh parents attended a parent-teacher meeting (PTM) on Friday across 19,200 government schools in Punjab’s 23 districts to discuss students’ academic progress, attendance, strengths and areas requiring support.
The meeting, held under the theme “Har Din, Ik Kadam Agge” (Every Day, One Step Forward), is part of the state government’s Punjab Sikhiya Kranti programme to improve school education through collaboration among teachers, parents and the wider school community.
Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains thanked parents for participating in the initiative and congratulated the School Education Department on organising the meetings. Ministers and AAP MLAs attended PTMs at schools across the state, while departmental officials visited around 2,000 schools to monitor arrangements.
During one-on-one interactions, teachers shared students’ report cards and discussed classroom performance, attendance and learning outcomes. Parents were also guided on supporting learning at home and working with teachers to address learning gaps.
Bains said the meetings aimed to strengthen parent-teacher partnerships and help parents understand their children’s individual learning needs. He also acknowledged the contribution of School Management Committee members to school development and community participation.
The minister said consistent encouragement at home, combined with academic support at school, could improve learning outcomes. The initiative seeks to make government schools more inclusive and responsive to students’ needs.
