Overview

Rashtriya Indian Military College, Dehradun is a boys’ boarding school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). Nestled in the verdant splendor of a 138-acre campus is the 90 years old Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC), Dehradun – the ‘Cradle of Excellence’. The RIMC is a feeder institution for the National Defence Academy, Indian Naval Academy and subsequently the Indian Armed Forces.

It was established in 1922 by the British Empire as a feeder institution to the Royal Military Academy (RMA) Sandhurst. After independence in 1947, the school continued to train young men to become a part of the Indian Armed Forces. The RIMC offers an excellent public-school life, oriented towards joining the National Defence Academy (India) NDA.

Campus

The RIMC is nestled in an expansive 138-acres campus in Dehradun. Campus facilities include a well-stocked library to cater to the academic life of students, a cyber cafe, two labs equipped with the latest hardware and software providing ample opportunity for developing computer skills. The new state of the art learning resource centre further augments the facilities for IT and library. Sports facilities include a 50-metre Olympic-sized swimming pool, an indoor swimming pool, five basketball courts, three squash courts, and numerous fields for football, hockey and horse-riding.

Academics

RIMC is affiliated with the CBSE board and administered by the Union Ministry of Defence, through the Directorate General of Military Training, Army. RIMC holds the Limca Book of Records of being the first Military School in India where exams for class X and XII are conducted twice a year, in the month of May and November. These exams/certifications are recognized by the CBSE. The College offers only the Science Stream at the plus two level. However, to prepare the Cadets for the UPSC examination for entry into NDA, social sciences are also taught. The curriculum is objective based and precisely timed to mould future leaders and render holistic development.

Regular periodic tests are held to ensure that the cadets grasp and assimilate the course of study covered in each month. After the term end examination, each cadet’s academic record is comprehensively analysed to determine his position in class; both curricular and extracurricular achievements of a term are recorded in his dossier.

Cadets are familiarized with the modern objective type of questions to prepare them to competently face the UPSC Examination for entry into the NDA and NAVAC. RIMC has shown excellent results in sending more than 81 percent cadets to NDA from each course (as compared to the national average which stands at 0.6 percent).
