GD Birla Memorial School for Boys is a boarding school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). It was promoted by BK Birla and Dr. Sarala Birla in 1987 in memory of the eminent industrialist Ghanshyam Das Birla. It is an English-medium residential school situated in Ranikhet, Uttarakhand. The school offers education to over 700 students from grades IV through XII. It is a member of the prestigious Indian Public Schools’ Conference and the Round Square International.

The sprawling 34-acre campus is sited on a hill slope about five kilometres from Ranikhet town in Almora district of Uttarakhand state and 360 kilometers from Delhi. The academic year at G.D. Birla Memorial School for Boys consists of two terms: first term from March to July and second term from September to December. The new academic year for other students begins in the first week of March.

Classes IV to X:
Compulsory language: English
Second language: Hindi (for classes IV to VIII) and Hindi / Sanskrit (for classes IX & X)
Third language: Sanskrit (for classes V to VIII)
Mathematics, history, democratic politics, geography, economics, physics, chemistry biology, computer science, physical education, moral science, and environmental science.
Senior secondary level (classes XI & XII): Senior secondary students have the option of selecting either science or commerce.
Compulsory language: English, Any five elective subjects from the following:
Science stream: physics, chemistry, physical education, mathematics / informatics practices, biology / computer science / economics
Commerce stream: accountancy, business studies, economics, physical education, mathematics / informatics practices
(Students opting for informatics practices are not permitted to take computer science and vice versa)
Evaluation and promotion: A system of continuous and comprehensive evaluation is followed. A student’s academic progress is determined by his performance in unit tests, periodic tests, half-yearly and final examinations. They are graded according to aggregate performance and promoted to the next class at the end of each academic year. Detailed subject reports, housemasters’ reports and medical reports are sent to parents to apprise them about the overall progress of their wards.

Every candidate must register with the school before appearing for the admission test. Prospectus-cum-registration forms for admission will be available at the school office. The administrative office is located in Kolkata. The date and venue will be intimated after registration. Parents should accompany the candidate at the time of admission test and interactive session. Selected candidates must produce the transfer certificate from the school last attended at the time of admission. Admission to Class XI is provisional till the declaration of the board results.
