Abacus Montessori School, Chennai is a co-ed day school affiliated with the Council For The Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), New Delhi. The school was promoted in June 1987 to evolve an intensely child-focused system of education. A contemporary Montessori school, it uses the Montessori Method to encourage children to learn through practical experience and self-discovery within a carefully prepared child-oriented environment.
The school was initially housed in a refurbished garage in RA Puram, then moved to Adyar and finally shifted to its present location in Perungudi. In the early years, the school received financial assistance from International Services, Chennai. It is now run by the Abacus Trust, a not-for-profit public, charitable and educational trust. The school enrolls 396 students from primary to class XII and 85 staff members.
The school campus comprises modern classrooms, a library, art room, music room and a physical education section providing facilities for football, basketball, badminton, table tennis, cricket and hockey. The school also has separate labs for physics, chemistry, biology and computers, and an open-air auditorium and courtyard.
The unique feature of the school is the well-ventilated child-friendly kitchen with two gas stoves for cooking, an electric oven and a microwave oven besides adequate cutlery, crockery, utensils blenders, knives and cutting boards. The kitchen has a first aid kit, a fire extinguisher and customized for younger children to work comfortably.
Abacus Montessori also has an on-campus counselor and a special education centre to help and support children with special learning requirements.
The school is affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi and follows the Montessori Method of education.
Children study in a mixed-age (two to six years) Montessori environment at the primary level. Upon completion of six years, they enter the elementary section. Classes VII to XII comprise the secondary and higher secondary sections.

The prospectus and enquiry form are issued throughout the year for Primary 1 and children are admitted in June, September and January. The child must be 2.6 years for admission. In a Montessori school children work in mixed age groups and are not categorized into Pre KG, L.K.G etc.
Admission to other classes is open in June depending on availability of seats.
