Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology, Thiruvananthapuram, founded on September 14, 2007, is a government-aided deemed university, offering high quality education at the undergraduate, graduate, doctoral and post-doctoral levels on space sciences, space technology and space applications. The first of its kind institute in the country, IIST was inaugurated by G. Madhavan Nair, the then chairman of ISRO.
Campus
The 100 acre IIST campus provides full-fledged infrastructure of international standards to facilitate an excellent academic and research atmosphere. The campus hosts four academic blocks - Aerospace, Physical Sciences, Avionics and Interdisciplinary. The academic blocks are equipped with spacious lecture halls, well-designed research centres and laboratories. The well-stocked central library features a rich collection of books, journals and e-resources on all major subject areas. The collection includes prominent text books, supplementary reading materials as well as reference books.E-resources deployed in the campus-wide network provide access to more than 5000 e-journals, hundreds of conference papers, standards etc. The e-resources include ACM Digital Library, AIAA, AIP, APS, Annual Reviews, ASME, Cambridge Online, IEL Online (IEEE), JSTOR, IOP, JSTOR, Optic Infobase, Oxford Journals.

Admission
Undergraduate admission Selection Criteria- JEE Main and Advanced scores/ranks Eligibility- 10+2 from recognized institution with a minimum of 75% marks and valid rank in the Join Entrance Examination (JEE) Admission process-
- Candidates must register for admission online via the IIST website, with the payment of application fees. Each candidate will be assigned a roll number post registration which will be required at the time of admission.
- Based on ranks secured in the JEE exams, candidates will receive the options for selecting preferences available to them according to their ranks.
- Eligible candidates will be called for counselling for the allotment and approval of seats. Admission is secured upon fee payment and document verification.
- Candidates must register for admission online via the IIST website, with the payment of application fees.
- Candidates will be shortlisted based on GATE/UGC NET/CSIR-NET scores and/or Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST), followed by an interview round.
- Eligible candidates have to pay fees and verify document to confirm admission

Achievement
The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranked Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology 33 in the engineering category in 2020. IIST is the first university in Asia to be solely dedicated to the study and research of outer space. IIST has signed a MoU with USRA (Universities space research association) of USA and California Institute of Technology for exchange of students and faculty.
