Welham Boys’ School (WBS), Dehradun sprawls over 30 acres in the Doon valley, in Uttarakhand. This residential school for boys was promoted in 1937 by Oliphant, a distinguished English lady, as a preparatory school for boarding schools in England. The school is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, and offers education to boys from class III to class XII.

Spread over 30 acres, the WBS estate is conveniently tucked away from the din and bustle of the city, providing an ideal atmosphere for learning. The school has been upgrading its existing infrastructure in keeping with the times, to provide its students state-of-the-art facilities.
The learning resource centre houses the reading room, audio visual room, gallery, the English language lab and the art department. The main block houses spacious classrooms, laboratories, staff room, offices of the senior management team, the stationery store and the server room.
The Whitehouse, which is a heritage building, houses the junior school classes, library, offices, staff room, music room and junior IT room. Sports facilities include two sports fields, tennis courts, two outdoor and one indoor basketball courts, a skating rink, squash courts and a volleyball court.
The activity centre, a spacious multipurpose hall, is the venue for school functions. It is equipped with high quality sound equipment, and boasts a state-of-the-art terraflex basketball court, a shooting range and a well-equipped gymnasium.
The school is affiliated with the CBSE board and is structured as primary school (classes III-V), middle school (classes VI-VIII), and the senior school (classes IX-XII). The curriculum is designed to encourage and develop an understanding of key concepts and ideas.
Projects, activity oriented and content centric teaching is introduced at the middle school level. Cross curriculum understanding is encouraged through theme-based teaching. Students are encouraged to be independent learners and engage in hands-on learning experiences. Research projects and reference studies are supported by the research lab and learning resource centre.
Extracurricular: Sports and extra- curricular activities form an important part of the curriculum at WBS. The admission is open to all, irrespective of class, creed and community. The main entry is in class IV, V, VI and VII. Vacancies in other classes are against withdrawals. Registration is mandatory for admission.
Admissions are based on performance in the entrance test and interaction with the student and parents. For admission to classes IV – IX the child will be assessed in English, Hindi, mathematics and life skills. For admission to class XI the child will be assessed in the following subjects:
Science stream – English, math & science
Commerce stream – English & math
Humanities stream – English, math & social science
The aptitude tests are conducted every year in the months of October/November for classes IV-VI, January for VII-IX and April and May for XI.
Boys who qualify in the written test are called for an interaction along with both the parents. Offer letter is sent to the selected candidates after the interaction and the fees has to be paid within the stipulated time.
The admission of a child to the school is based on the understanding that his parent or guardian delegates his/her authority to the principal during the term period and to the school doctor in matters of health.

Welham Boys’ School has four senior houses, four middle school houses, and three junior school houses.
The dining hall offers hygienically prepared well balanced meals where the entire school takes their meals. Medical facilities include a 20 beds hospital, an isolation ward with beds, a minor operation theatre, a medical store, a visitor’s lounge and a physiotherapy centre.
