Mahatma Gandhi International School, Ahmedabad (MGIS) is a co-educational international day school affiliated with the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE), UK and the International Baccalaureate (IB), Geneva. MGIS was the first authorized IB (International Baccalaureate) World School in Gujarat, having obtained this status in November 2002. MGIS is also registered with the University of Cambridge International Examinations, the Mission Laïque Française and Edexcel. MGIS was established in 1998 by the educationists, Pascal Chazot and Anju Musafir in collaboration with the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation. The building in which the school is located was donated by Sheth Motilal Hirabhai, relative of Dr. Bihari Kanhaiyalal.
The school enrolls approximately 200 students from the local and expatriate communities. One fifth of the students come from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds; the foundation bears the costs of these children’s education. MGIS also integrates children with learning difficulties into the classroom.
Mahatma Gandhi International School, Ahmedabad campus boasts state-of-the-art infrastructure to support the academic and extracurricular pursuits of its students. The well stocked library boasts more than 7,000 books. The spacious and well ventilated classrooms are comfortably furnished and equipped with modern teaching aids. The campus also houses state-of-the-art science and computer laboratories.
The school cafeteria provides well balanced, nutritious meals, prepared under hygienic conditions.
Being affiliated with the Geneva based International Baccalaureate (IB), Mahatma Gandhi International School, Ahmedabad offers the IB Middle Years Programme for classes VI to X and the IB Diploma Programme for classes XI and XII. MGIS is also affiliated with CAIE and offers the Cambridge International Primary Programme for class I-to V. It offers Hindi and French as second languages to its Diploma students.
The school maintains healthy ties with other international schools, such as L’Ecole Aujourd’hui and Lycee Saint Germain en Laye from Paris and Mercedes College from Adelaide.
