The Blue Mountain School, Ooty is a residential co-educational English medium school affiliated with the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE). It admits students from class I onwards.
The school is located on a four-acre campus on the south-eastern slopes facing the Ooty valley. It was founded in 1962 by F.G. Pearce, a renowned educationist and pioneer of the Indian Public-School Movement. The school was nurtured and its philosophy of creative education further developed by well-known educationists David Horsburgh, J.P. Gunawardane and Sardar Mohammed Malik.
The Blue Mountain School spans four acres on the southern slopes facing Ooty Valley and is housed in an old English style residential building and estate. The school campus includes classrooms, a library, labs, indoor and outdoor sports facilities (basketball and table tennis), a gymnasium and the dormitories.
The school is affiliated with the Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations and students write the class X ICSE and class XII ISC exams. Besides English, Hindi and Tamil are also taught. The school has a teacher student ratio of 1:10.
Extracurricular: The school emphasizes health and physical fitness of students through participation in various sports and games and yoga. Creative and educational drama and theatre constitute another special aspect of the curriculum. Outdoor adventure activities like hiking, trekking, nature walks and camps are also regularly organized. To foster aesthetics the school offers courses in art and crafts, singing, instrumental music and dance.

Registration for admission is open from January 15. Admission forms and relevant documents are available for Rs. 550. The minimum admission age for pre-school is 3 years.
Fees: At the time of admission, students have to pay Rs.15, 000 as admission fee, Rs.65, 000 as refundable caution deposit and Rs.10, 000 as service fee. The annual fee ranges from 40,000 to 1, 50,000.
Blue Mountain School was ranked among the top five boarding schools of Tamil Nadu in the Education World India School Rankings 2012.
Each dormitory accommodates 14 students. Resident teachers are assigned to each dormitory.
