Overview

Founded by Fr. Thomas Thoomkuzhy, St. Francis de Sales School, Janakpuri, Delhi was established on April 10, 1978 with 117 students in tents that served as classrooms. The first batch of 61 students wrote their class X board exams in 1984 and the school was upgraded to senior secondary (classes XII-XII) the same year.

In April 1982, the school started a Hindi medium section to provide formal academic education in the afternoon hours to children from underprivileged sections of society. The Hindi medium section began with a batch of 50 students enrolled in kindergarten, class I and II. It was extended to class X in 1993 and in 1995 the first batch of class X Hindi medium students wrote the CBSE examination.

St. Francis de Sales is a coeducational day school and an unaided, recognized Christian minority private institution affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Campus

The school provides a math lab and two language laboratories for its primary and secondary sections. The library has a collection of encyclopedia, dictionaries, atlases, as well as over 23,300 books and subscription to 60 periodicals. The school also has an engineering graphics lab in compliance with the new syllabus designed by CBSE for Computer Aided Designing (CAD). All the computers are equipped with COLLAB-CAD software.

The school hosts two state-of-the-art multi-media labs for its primary, secondary and senior secondary levels, audio-visual (AV) and interactive classrooms. Other facilities include a well-equipped language lab and math lab.

The School Administration maintains a computer network connecting offices of the principal, vice-principal, heads of various departments, library and office secretary.

Academics

The school is affiliated with the CBSE board and prepares students for its class X and XII exams. Students of the science stream of classes XI and XII can opt for computer science and those in the commerce stream for informatics practices as electives for the CBSE board examination.

The school has equipped its AV room and interactive classrooms with the latest multimedia infrastructure to reinforce the lessons taught in class. The multimedia lessons also help improve general knowledge and enhance knowledge of lessons learned with the help of relevant pictures, videos, power point presentations, animations, etc.

Admission

Age criterion:

The child should have completed 3 years of age by March 31, 2012.

Admission forms are available at the school campus and distributed on January 2 and 3 from 8 am to 2 pm and from January 4 to 6 between 10 am and 12 pm. Forms need to be submitted by January 7, between 8 am and 2 pm and January 9 to 12, between 2 pm and 4 pm.

Achievement

The school claims to be the first in Delhi to implement the technology of closed circuit television, named "Vidya Darpan."
