Delhi Public School, Chandigarh, is a coeducational day school. Established in 2003, DPS Chandigarh is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and enrolls 3,465 students. It’s a franchisee school of the Delhi Public School Society (estb. 1949) which runs 140 Delhi Public Schools countrywide.
DPS Chandigarh offers state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities including an electric toy train, sports complex, amphitheater, multimedia-enabled ‘smart classrooms’ and a learning centre with creative stations. The school follows the multiple intelligences approach to education.
The objective of the school is to “encourage all children to realize their true potential and seek educational challenges, with a commitment to ‘Service before Self’ in order to prepare the young learners to act in accordance with a personal philosophy that reflects concern for all.”
The school’s auditorium, the “Rajiv Gandhi Hall of Excellence,” is equipped with the latest state-of-the-art audio-visual facilities and offers a seating capacity of approximately 550. It has high-quality acoustics and is equipped with sound systems of professional quality and sophisticated stage lighting.
There is an amphitheatre with a seating capacity of over 600 students. The library covers an area of 3000 square feet, with separate sections for the senior school and junior section. The library has a collection of 7840 titles including fiction and non- fiction in all genres and subjects. The library is also stocked with multimedia materials like CDs, DVDs and videos for use in the classes.
The aesthetically designed conference room is well-furnished and equipped with the latest audio-visual equipment for presentations. It is used for conferences, conventions, seminars, etc.
There is a sports complex for cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, table-tennis and athletics. There are also two clay lawn tennis courts and a swimming pool, with a splash pool for young learners.
The school has 36 ‘smart classrooms’ equipped with plasma TVs assisted by Educomp.
A Science Park with a large collection of open-air gadgets encourages students to explore science.
The school hosts a play area with slides, swings, sea-saw, and balancing equipment. There is also an electric toy train. The DPS pre-primary wing has a learning center with four creative stations – the knowledge centre, spatial centre, reading centre and discovery centre.
DPS Chandigarh follows the CBSE syllabus. The school’s curriculum has evolved to achieve a balance between the development of the body and the mind. The school follows a pattern of fourteen years of schooling. It starts with one year of Nursery at the age of 3 +, followed by one year of Preparatory Class (KG) and then 12 years of Secondary and Senior Secondary School, based on the 10+2 CBSE pattern of instruction.
The pre-primary children learn through different stimuli at the learning centre.
For junior, middle and senior school, the teaching methodologies include application of ‘Smart Class’ technology which has a gamut of information for all classes based on the CBSE curriculum. The classrooms are equipped with Plasma TV and audio-visual teaching aids which help to reinforce classroom concepts.
Regular group discussions, seminars, visits by eminent guest faculty/speakers, field visits and project work form an integral part of learning at school.
The Theory of Multiple Intelligences is followed, to achieve the school’s aim of creating physically healthy, intellectually stimulated, emotionally balanced and spiritually conscious members of society.

DPS Chandigarh students have won many prizes and honours at national and international events in sports, cultural events and academics. The school bagged the first position in the Zonal Inter-DPS Hindustani Vocal Music Competition and second position in Nrityanjali 2012 Zonal Inter DPS Folk Dance Competition. Jaskeerat Singh, a class VI student, was ranked 21st in Asian Schools Chess Championship 2012, competing against players from around the globe.
DPS Chandigarh is ranked among the top co-ed day schools in the country by the EducationWorld India School Rankings 2020-21.
