The Indian School, New Delhi is a coeducational day school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education. Founded in 1996 by the Gyan Mandir Society, The Indian School offers schooling from kindergarten through class XII.
The mission of the school is, “To achieve excellence in learning both within the classroom and beyond and to empower teachers to guide children with means to construct knowledge, to bring back an element of joy to school surroundings which would nudge the child to grow into full bloom”.
The school has well-lit and ventilated classrooms equipped with interactive whiteboards, enlarged spacious library with a reading room and a resource room with audio-visual, internet and photocopying facilities. There is a multipurpose auditorium on the ground floor, an 80-seater Audio-Visual room is set up on the first floor for conferences, lectures, workshops, educational film shows, assemblies, power point presentations and teacher-training programs. The arts center hosts fully equipped art, music, dance and theater rooms. The school also has a cafeteria, an air-conditioned infirmary and two school nurses.
Every classroom is equipped with a close circuit TV. Other facilities include labs, play field, entry and exit points.
The sports infrastructure comprises a football field, a cricket pitch, a state-of-the-art skating rink and a basketball court. There is also an athletics track, spectator stands, indoor badminton court and tables for table tennis.
The school is affiliated with the CBSE. Hindi is the second language till class VIII. Sanskrit/ French are offered as third language choices from classes VI to VIII.Students are given projects and curriculum related activities like excursions, workshops, lectures, seminars, films and national and international festivals and events are hosted regularly. Teacher and student workshops are held by eminent subject experts. Counselors and teachers work with parents to guide students in identifying their capabilities and potential.
In junior school, the curriculum is based on the fundamentals – mathematics, science, language and reasoning – the basics of all learning. No formal examinations are held till class VI. However, there is an assessment system based on weekly class assignments and projects. Physical Education and work experience are an essential part of the curriculum. Computer science is compulsory for classes IV to X.
Classes IX, X, XI and XII are given special counseling. In classes XI and XII the school offers commerce, science and humanities streams.
The school also has a Special Education Needs Department that comprises of a special educator and school psychologist, who cater to the needs of students suffering from dyslexia, dyscalculia, attention deficiency, and hyperactivity disorder among others. After the informal assessment by the special educator and the school counselor, the child is referred to professionals registered under RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India)
