The government of Uttar Pradesh has approved new standards and conditions for the establishment of private schools in the state. According to the new guidelines, private schools affiliated to the Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, also known as the UP Board, will not be allowed to open in small buildings.

 

The government has mandated that a minimum of 3,000 square meters of land will be required to open a school in an urban area, up from the previous requirement of 650 square meters. In rural areas, the requirement has been increased to 6,000 square meters, up from the previous 2,000 square meters.

 

In addition to the increased land requirements, the security deposit for recognition has also been increased significantly, and the inclusion of smart classes, computer classes, and other state-of-the-art resources has been made mandatory. 

 

The changes are being implemented to ensure quality education in line with the National Education Policy 2020.

 

Private schools seeking recognition will now be required to comply with stricter regulations and will be initially given recognition for three years, with the possibility of renewal for five years based on compliance with recognition conditions and arrangements in the school.

 

District committees will now conduct detailed inspections of the schools, including videography and photography of the building, laboratory, playground, boundary wall, and library, which will be uploaded on the council’s website. 

 

Schools will also be required to maintain a student-teacher ratio of no more than 40:1 and have one teacher for each subject. Once recognized, schools will also be required to publish their results and fees on their website.
