Aahwahan Foundation takes learning to the doorsteps of underprivileged children

Aahwahan Foundation

Aahwahan Foundation, a Bangalore-based non-profit organisation, that envisions to ensure that education of the underprivileged students is not stalled by the nationwide lockdown, has been helping close to 46 government schools across the country reach out to their students at their doorsteps.

With the help of generic apps such as Google Meet and others, the organisation has been enabling students from far flung regions of the country to stay connected to their teachers and ensuring they are continuously learning amid the Covid-19 pandemic. In this initiative, the NGO has tied up with organisations such as Infinera that is helping them to provide either android phones for these students or helping with the recharge for their phones to keep them functioning smoothly. The children have also demonstrated a lot of interest and enthusiasm in coming forward and learning making it a win-win solution for all.

“We are happy at such a time we could help these students ensuring their education is not stopped or hampered due to extended lockdown. We so far have managed to ensure regular online classes for 46 schools and now are regularly reaching out to more schools to help their students with the same. Corporates like Infinera, Citrix have come forward to help us in this initiative and we look forward to more such support from others in any form to further our reach to schools in helping them”, said Braja Kishore Pradhan, founder, Aahwahan Foundation.

The organisation’s work is not limited to this initiative; even before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, Aahwahan Foundation had been running several educational programmes to help needy students across the country. It started a unique programme called ‘Education on Wheels’ which is a computer lab on wheels mainly for girl students to access computer education for which they are provided certificates from NIIT as well – all free of cost. The organisation has also been providing free education to children (till class 10) whose parents cannot afford sending them to schools and free computer classes in government schools. The foundation has also been helping exceptionally brilliant students in sports, extra-curricular and other fields to be recognised for their talents; one such talent groomed by them is Sohini who is World No. 3 in Tennis and No. 2 in India. The organisation has also been running ‘Doctor at School’ programme that ensures regular school visits by doctors who teach children about personal hygiene and conduct their basic health check-up.

Promoted in 2009, the Bangalore-based Aahwahan Foundation is a non-profit organisation that works towards promoting the welfare of the economically weaker sections of the society by generating employment across various sectors pan-India.
