A social media post by an attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) survivor on how teachers could identify students with the disorder has gone viral with over 12,000 likes in just a day.
As children return to in-person learning after two years of the pandemic, psychological and behavioral issues are aplenty. ADHD is one of the most spoken among them in India.
Initiated by Jordan Taylor, a survivor and teacher with ADHD has written a post on management of ADHD without medication that talks about aspects of identification and management.
Taylor is also the author of a book ‘Total attention magic’. “I wrote this book to teach parents how I manage my ADHD and my son’s ADHD without medication. If you’re a parent of an ADHD kid, this book will teach you to make a dramatic difference in your kid’s behavior immediately,” he says.

In another Twitter chain, Taylor has enlisted 17 questions that parents could ask teachers that will in turn help a teacher understand the child.
Here are some questions parents could ask teachers:
“Schools often look at the child as the locus of the problem. This can make them blind to the rest of the environment. Use these questions to help yourself and the school officials identify contributing factors,” he writes.
Does my child have access to cellphones or other electronic devices at inappropriate times? (It’s common for many kids to borrow a friend’s phone during the school day.)
When using an electronic device for schoolwork (laptop, tablet) what prevents my kid from streaming videos or playing online games?
When my kid misbehaves, does he/she receive more attention (positive or negative) from teachers, administrators, or counselors? Is attention seeking at the root of the misbehavior?
Does my child receive any unstructured free time such as recess?
How is my kid’s desk/workspace/locker organized? Is it cluttered? How often is he/she given time for organization or cleanup?
(For introverts) Is my child permitted any alone time during the day to read, draw, daydream, etc.?
All the 17 questions could be read on his twitter link that has over 3,000 retweets in one day
Teachers often don't know what to do to help #ADHD kids until they start asking the right questions. I have ADHD and I'm a teacher. I wrote a list of 17 questions for parents to ask in school meetings. These ?s will help the teacher help your kid ->
