October 4, 2024

A government school teacher in Agra, Malti Verma, tragically died from cardiac arrest after allegedly receiving a threatening call from cyber fraudsters claiming her daughter was involved in a sex scandal. The incident occurred on September 30, when the fraudsters demanded ₹1 lakh to prevent the disclosure of the supposed scandal.

Her son, Deepanshu Rajput, reported that Verma received a WhatsApp call around noon from someone posing as a police inspector, threatening to reveal her daughter’s identity. After the call, Verma informed her son about the situation, and upon investigating, he confirmed that it was a fraudulent call. Despite this reassurance, her anxiety escalated.

Rajput mentioned that after returning home from school, Verma complained of chest pain and was taken to a hospital, where she was declared dead due to cardiac arrest. The local police have received a complaint from the family and are investigating the case further.

This incident highlights the severe psychological impact that cyber fraud can have on victims, emphasizing the need for increased awareness and prevention measures against such crimes. Cyber fraud cases have been on the rise, with many victims suffering significant emotional distress, leading to tragic outcomes like this one.

Local authorities are urging citizens to remain vigilant against such scams and report suspicious calls immediately. Further details are expected to emerge as the investigation progresses.
