The principal of a government school was assaulted by a group while surveying a madrasa in Ahmedabad on Saturday, police reported.
Police arrested two men after filing a case against five to seven individuals for unlawful assembly, rioting, causing hurt, robbery, and criminal intimidation.
Sandeep Patel, principal of Shruti Higher Secondary School, visited the madrasa in Dariyapur to collect details about its students and infrastructure for a government survey. Finding the premises closed, he began taking photos from outside. A group then confronted him, and despite explaining his purpose, they attacked him, seized his phone and documents, and threatened his life. Patel managed to escape and reported the incident.
“We have arrested two persons and further investigation is ongoing,” said a Dariyapur police official.
Labdhir Desai, an Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation education committee officer, mentioned that similar surveys were conducted at 175 madrasas with support during the exercise.
