Aircraft Maintenance Engineering: Spiralling demand for aircraft engineers

Q: What are the job prospects for Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and what are the qualifications needed for the course?
A: Aircraft Maintenance Engineering is not a degree course. Instead the training involves completing the syllabus prescribed by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Institutions imparting training under the prescribed curriculum need to be approved by the DGCA. Interested Applicants should have completed class XII or equivalent with a minimum average of 50 % and be at least 18 years of age.

After completing the training and internal examinations, an application for license is forwarded to DGCA.

While choosing the institution, the applicant should take care that the institution should be approved by DGCA, should have own aircraft, related workshops, engines, well- stocked libraries, modern teaching aids and experienced faculty.
