Overview

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi (AIIMS) is a premier medical college and research public university based in New Delhi. The Institute operates autonomously under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (India). In the annual ranking of India’s best colleges compiled by the Delhi-based newsweekly India Today, AIIMS is routinely ranked as the most prestigious medical college in India.

AIIMS was established in 1956 by the Indian Parliament with the objective of developing a strong curricular foundation for undergraduate and post-graduate healthcare education in India. AIIMS spokespersons attribute the institution’s excellence is thanks to several factors — small class sizes, excellent library facilities, liberal clinically oriented teaching, research exposure and the mandate given to its faculty to set its own curriculum.

Several surveys by The Week and Outlook magazines have named AIIMS teaching hospital as the best in India. Campus

AIIMS is a residential university where the faculty members, staff and students live on either the main campus or one of the several campuses which form a part of the Institution. Situated on a 100-acre campus, there are five hostels for male undergraduate students and a single hostel for female undergraduate students. These six hostels together can accommodate 850 students. For post-graduate students, there are three hostels available for the men students and married couples and a single hostel for the women students. Additional hostels for Nursing students and Post-graduate students are available in the neigbourhood of the he main AIIMS campus.

A large, well-equipped student’ gym, swimming pool and tennis court, basketball, volleyball, squash and soccer provide ample recreational opportunities. Prayatna is a student organization that arranges blood donation camps for the fulfillment of perpetual shortage of blood at the AIIMS blood bank.

Admission

Undergraduate Admissions: M.B.B.S.

Selection Criteria: NEET UG scores

Eligibility: 10+2 from a recognized board with PCB with a minimum of 60% marks

Admission procedure:

• Candidates are required to fill the AIIMS application form and select their chosen stream along with the payment of application fees through the AIIMS official website.
• Candidates must appear for the NEET UG examinations and secure the desired rank/score to qualify the cut-off.
• Qualifying candidates must verify required documents and pay specified fees to confirm admission.

Undergraduate Admissions: B.Sc.

Selection Criteria: score in AIIMS B.Sc. entrance examination

Eligibility: 10+2 from a recognized board with PCB/PCM with a minimum of 55% marks

Admission procedure:

• Candidates are required to fill and submit the AIIMS application form, choosing their preferred stream along with the payment of application fees through the AIIMS official website.
• Candidates must appear for the AIIMS B.Sc. examination and secure the desired marks to qualify the cut-off.
• Qualifying candidates will be called for a personal interview by the AIIMS selectiom committee, following which they may verify required documents and pay specified fees to confirm admission.

Postgraduate Admissions

Selection Criteria: AIIMS PG score / written test (for M.Sc.)

Eligibility: undergraduate/bachelor’s degree in the relevant specialisation with a minimum of 55-60% marks

Admission procedure:

• Candidates are required to fill and submit the AIIMS application form, choosing their preferred stream along with the payment of application fees through the AIIMS official website.
• Candidates seeking admission to M.Sc. must appear for the AIIMS M.Sc. examination and secure the desired marks to qualify the cut-off. Admission to all other postgraduate courses will be based on AIIMS PG results.
• Candidates qualifying the cut-off will be called for a counselling session, following which they must verify required documents and pay specified fees to confirm admission.

Ph.D. Admissions

Selection Criteria: performance in institute-conducted written exam and interview

Eligibility: M.B.B.S./B.D.S./M.Sc. Nursing with a minimum of 55% marks | minimum of 60% marks in two most recent qualifying exams for non-medical candidates and their performance in Joint CSIR-UGC NET/ICMR-JRF/ICMR-SRF/DBT-JRF/GATE/NBHM Screening test/INSPIRE Fellowship

Admission procedure:

• Candidates are required to fill and submit the AIIMS application form, choosing their preferred stream along with the payment of application fees through the AIIMS official website.
• Candidates must appear for the entrance exam conducted by AIIMS in the CBT (online) mode. This is followed by the personal interview round conducted by the institute.
• Candidates qualifying admission may verify required documents and pay the specified fees to confirm admission.

Fees: First year fees range from INR 805 to INR 1685.

Achievement

The National Institutional Ranking Framework ranked AIIMS Delhi 1 among all medical colleges in India in 2020.
