Alliance University‘s Chancellor and an executive were arrested on Thrusday by the Bengaluru City Police in connection with the murder of former vice-chancellor, Ayyappa Dore. Chancellor of of the university, Sudhir G Angur, and his associate Suraj Singh, who was working as an executive there were arrested from BTM Layout.

Bengaluru City Police told Indian Express, “It has been found that the two have been instrumental in planning the murder in a bid to get an upper hand over Madhukar Angur, the prime suspect’s brother, with whom the deceased had close ties.” The police further added that the search for another seven suspects was still underway and the arrested would be interrogated for more leads to find the others.

The victim had went for a night walk when the gang, who were waiting outside his residence, murdered him recklessly. Dore was a close aide of Madhukar, who was believed to have helped him in legal battles against Sudhir. The Police also claimed that the suspects had allegedly planned to kill Madhukar.

Dore also founded a political party called Jana Samanyara Paksha (JSP) and contested the 2018 Assembly election from Muddebihal assembly constituency, although unsuccessfully. The suspects feared that Dore’s influence with top politicians would result in their downfall.

Hailing from Saasooru in Vijayapura district, Dore was a former RTI activist and served as the chairperson of a committee formed by the Siddaramaiah-led government. He was given the task of looking into irregularities of private universities in the state.

The Angurs are also the co-founders of the university. During 2016, classes at Alliance University were postponed and the varsity was temporarily closed due to family feud between the Angurs.
