January 22, 2025

Amazon’s Future Engineer (AFE) program has reached a major milestone, training 3 million government school students and over 20,000 teachers across 272 districts in eight Indian states since its launch in 2021. The program, which focuses on students in grades 6 and above, provides multilingual computer science education resources in seven Indian languages, including Hindi, Tamil, and Marathi.

As part of its efforts to bridge the gender gap in technology, Amazon announced 500 merit-based scholarships worth INR 2 lakhs each for female students pursuing undergraduate degrees in computer science or related fields. Scholarship recipients will also receive mentorship, coding boot camps, and personal laptops to support their learning and career growth. Additionally, the program has provided over 1,700 internships since its inception.

The ‘Careers of the Future’ summit held in Delhi brought together policymakers and educators to discuss the importance of computer science education in preparing students for tech-driven careers. Key topics included improving access to quality education and leveraging online platforms for equitable learning.

“Through the Amazon Future Engineer program, we are equipping students with the skills needed for future careers while addressing the digital divide. By supporting students, especially young women, we are fostering a diverse and inclusive talent pool to drive growth and innovation,” said Samir Kumar, Country Manager, Amazon India.

Teachers involved in the program highlighted its impact. Rajashri Nanasaheb Mane, a teacher participant, said, “The program has inspired students to learn coding and apply it to solve real-world problems.”

Amazon collaborates with organizations such as Asha for Education and Quest Alliance and works with government bodies to deliver the program across states like Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. The initiative aims to prepare underserved students for the opportunities of tomorrow.
