On October 24, Amity University hosted the grand finale of its month-long sports extravaganza at its Noida campus. The 21st SANGATHAN 2019, an annual sports festival of AUG that embodies the true spirit of healthy competition and youthful fervour, commenced on September 2.
The annual sports meet incepted way back in 1998 on the Founder’s Day that is celebrated to honour the dynamic leadership and unparalleled achievements of the founder president of the Amity Group of Institutions, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan.
In keeping with the indomitable spirit of Amitians, Sangathan 2019 was celebrated at two levels. At the first level, sports competitions were held at each Amity University campus as ‘Inter-Institutional Sports Meet’. At the second level, a mega Sangathan event was held at Amity University, Noida on October 24 whereby all Amity national and international campuses came together in unison to participate and compete in a plethora of sports events.
The grandeur of Sangathan 2019 has reached a new high with Amity students seizing the opportunity to compete in as many as 40 sporting events; including badminton, basketball, volleyball, karate, cricket, chess, tug of war etc. in order to bag their much-coveted trophies. The event represents courage, discipline, and an unyielding determination as driving forces behind the participants. It epitomizes the ideals that Amity as a group of institutions has always upheld.
Addressing the students on the occasion, chief guest Dr. Aseem Chauhan, chancellor, AUG said, “Amity University is unique in many ways. In Amity, tradition blends with modernity. We equip help our students with sound values that enable them to confidently take on the challenges of adult life with a sense of responsibility and commitment.”
Dr. P B Sharma, vice-chancellor, AUG said, “A bright and progressive India can only be created when the foundation of young people is based on strong values like dedication, commitment, and integrity. Participating in sports teaches us the importance of team spirit, leadership, and discipline.”
Maj Gen G S Bal (Retd), DSW, AUG in his address said, “Sports and games embody a spirit of teamwork and competitiveness. Sangathan signifies the indomitable spirit of our youth who year after year compete in various events, inculcating a spirit of sportsmanship and an unwavering determination to perform and achieve.”
Commenting on his achievement, Sahil, student of Amity Institute of Biotechnology and winner of the ‘Best Athlete’ trophy said, “It is a great achievement, and I worked really hard to get this award. I am also preparing for university games, so I am hoping for the best.”
