Coimbatore headquartered Amrita University has emerged as the No. 1 private university and the 9th best university in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Ranking 2017 for Indian Universities, that was released on April 3 by the minister of Human Resource Development Prakash Javadekar. This is a significant improvement from last year’s NIRF ranking, in which Amrita University was judged the No. 2 private university and 14th best university in the country.
“It is a great feeling to reach the top of the ranking for private universities in India in just one year and be ranked No. 9 university overall in the country in NIRF Ranking 2017, right behind some of most prestigious public-funded universities in the country,” said Dr. P. Venkat Rangan, vice chancellor, Amrita University. “This is a testament to the tradition of academic excellence and outstanding faculty that Amrita University is known for since its inception in 2003. We maintain one of the best staff-student ratio of 1:10.”
Amrita University has been ranked the 9th best university in India behind names such as Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, Jawaharlal Nehru University, Banaras Hindu University, Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Jadavpur University, Anna University, University of Hyderabad, and University of Delhi. There is no other private university in the list of top 10 universities of India in the NIRF Ranking 2017.
