Yogesh Kumar, an 18-year-old student from Army Public School Delhi Cantt-10, captained the Indian football team to a gold medal at the Special Olympics Gothia Cup 2024. Despite his hearing impairment and intellectual disability, Kumar has demonstrated remarkable skill and leadership.
As captain, Kumar’s dedication and training were key to the team’s success. The Gothia Cup, known for its competitive nature, allowed Kumar and his team to showcase their abilities on a global stage.
Under Kumar’s leadership, the Indian team won against Finland, Hong Kong, and Germany in the league stage, and secured the gold medal with a win over Denmark in the finals.
Coach Sanjay Singh Kandari played a crucial role in the team’s success with his strategic guidance and support. His ability to motivate and adjust tactics was instrumental in leading the team to victory.
Army Public School Delhi Cantt-10 provided essential support for Kumar’s journey. Principal Dr. Neetu Kapoor and other staff offered strong encouragement, and the school’s inclusive environment helped Kumar excel.
