The Army Public School, Shillong was founded on March 22, 1983 as Army School Shillong. The school is affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi and offers education from class I through XII.
The school was set up to promote academic excellence, discipline, build personal character and inculcate a high sense of values and foster national integration among children, especially those of Army personnel.
The school campus hosts spacious classrooms, well-equipped laboratories for physics, chemistry biology, mathematics and computer science, a well-stocked library featuring a collection of over 9000 books, subscriptions to 11 magazines and 7 national and local news, and three well equipped computer laboratories with 60 computers and internet connectivity.
Affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, the school offers education from class I through XII. It offers three streams – Science, Commerce and Humanities – at senior secondary level.

Academic session begins on April 1 every year. Admission is open to all but priority is given to the children of serving army personnel. Children of army ex-service men, serving air force and naval personnel, civilians paid out of defence estimates etc. are also given preference for admission.

APS, Shillong was ranked the “Best Overall Senior Secondary School” in 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 in the Eastern Command.
Being a day school, it does not offer accommodation facility.
