Assam advertises 14,223 school teacher positions

Ranoj Pegu

Assam has posted an advertisement to fill 14,223 school teacher positions across the state, as announced by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Wednesday. Pegu shared on X that the Directorate of Secondary Education has issued the advertisement for 1,424 post-graduate and 7,249 graduate teacher positions.

The recruitment for graduate teachers will encompass various streams such as arts, science, Hindi, and Sanskrit, targeting provincialized secondary schools. Provincialization involves the government assuming all responsibilities of a non-government school, originally established to provide education for societal benefit, including payment of salaries and other benefits to teachers.

Furthermore, Pegu informed that the Directorate of Elementary Education has advertised 3,800 Assistant Teacher positions for Lower Primary (LP) Schools. Additionally, various newspapers carry advertisements for 1,750 positions, including Assistant Teachers, Science Teachers, and Hindi Teachers for Upper Primary (UP) Schools.

In response to this announcement, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed, “Today, our government has released vacancies for over 10,000 posts in the education department. We will not only deliver but exceed our promise of creating more than 1 lakh government jobs in the most transparent manner in Assam’s history.” The BJP had pledged to offer one lakh government jobs annually in Assam during the 2021 assembly polls, clarifying later that the commitment was for the entire five-year tenure.
