Assam Rifles Public School (ARPS) Shillong is a co-ed day cum boarding school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi. ARPS offers education from class IV to class XII and offers Science, Humanities and Commerce streams at the higher secondary level. The school is managed by the Assam Rifles Public School Society, a registered autonomous body under Society Act, 1960.
Sited amidst the pictureque backdrop of Laitkor valley in Shillong, ARPS was promoted in 1980 and was inaugurated by the then governor of the North Eastern States, L.P. Singh. Assam Rifles Public School is a premier boarding school for boys, with a few girls as day scholars. The school aims at “providing quality education to deserving children of JCOs, officers and personnel of Assam Rifles”, and its imposing infrastructure facilitates the same.
ARPS campus sprawls over 200 acres amidst the picturesque backdrop of Laitkor valley of Shillong, and abounds with myriad opportunities and facilities.
Extensive playgrounds host various outdoor games such as volleyball, cricket, basketball, football, marathon etc. The school also offers a golf course, a vegetable farm, a bakery along with an infirmary, a stationary and a shopping center inside the premises. Other activities at ARPS include horse riding, art and craft, clay modeling, carpentry, music and dramatics.
ARPS Shillong is affiliated with the CBSE board, and offers education from class IV to class XII and offers Science, Humanities and Commerce streams at the higher secondary level. The medium of instruction is English, but Hindi is a compulsory subject up to class X. Sanskrit is taught as third language from class VI to class VIII. Special remedial classes are arranged for students found weak in different subjects. Students up to class X are assessed as per CCE Assessment Patterns as well as monthly evaluation systems. Monthly tests are conducted for students of classes XI and XII in order to assess and develop their academic potentials.

Admissions are offered in classes IV and V on the basis of an entrance test in English, Hindi and Mathematics followed by an interview. The entrance test is conducted in the month of October every year. Vacancies in higher classes (except X and XII) are also filled up similarly. The prospective applicants must be registered before appearing for an entrance test to any class.
Rs. 2000 is charged as non-refundable registration fee. 60 percent of the hostel seats are reserved for the children of Assam Rifles personnel, late Assam Rifles personnel and ex-servicemen, while 40 percent seats are open for civilians.

While education for the children of Assam Rifles personnel is highly subsidized, reasonable scholarships are offered to the meritorious tribal children of the North Eastern Council.
