A kindergarten classroom in Kerala’s Malappuram district has added a whole new dimension to learning for children by including augmented reality in the online sessions. While attending the classes, the children could a giant elephant or cow, life-size astronaut and huge planets appear onscreen beside the teacher.
Shyam Vengalloor, a social science teacher at the AEM AUP School introduced augmented reality to online classes to impart a better education for his students. He told ANI, “It took around two months to get it done. The online lessons were otherwise dull and needed more effort.”
Using green screen, Gif (graphics interchange format) images and several apps, Vengalloor has succeeded in creating an augmented reality for the virtual class by superimposing graphics, audio and sensory enhancements. Augmented reality technology imposes a computer-generated image on a user’s view of the real world, hence providing a composite view.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan commenced the new academic year for school students from Monday, June 1, 2020 with online classes launched by the name ‘First Bell’. The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) has released the timetable for the classes. It will be carried out through KITE Victors Channel and will be also available on YouTube.
Classes are broadcasted according to the timetable set by the Kite Victors Channel and are also made available through YouTube. The online classes will be held from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. from Monday to Friday and various time slots have been allocated to students of different classes.
