The University Grants Commission has announced that for the first time, Ayurveda Biology will be included as one of the subjects in the UGC National Eligibility Test (NET) 2024.
This decision was approved during the University Grants Commission’s (UGC) 581st meeting on June 25, 2024, based on proposals from an expert panel. This move is also in alignment with the National Education Policy 2020 and aimed at promoting Ayurveda within the educational framework.
The UGC also announced that the syllabus for this subject has been made available online on the official website.
The UGC NET is a countrywide exam conducted for selecting candidates for lectureships and Junior Research Fellowships across Indian universities conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
With Ayurveda Biology now on the syllabus, experts are hopeful that the scope for academic research in this ancient medical science will improve supporting the growth of Ayurveda within India’s educational and research landscape.
Experts believe that the UGC’s inclusion of Ayurveda Biology echoes a commitment to strengthening India’s traditional knowledge systems within higher education.
