Bal Bharati Public School, Ganga Ram Hospital Marg, witnessed a historic and emotional moment on September 9th, as the community bid farewell to its long-serving principal, Laksh Vir Sehgal, who retired after 25 years of distinguished service.
The farewell ceremony, titled Ek Yatra, Ek Yashogatha, celebrated Sehgal’s transformative journey since joining the institution in 2000. Through vision and dedication, he steered the school to national prominence, while also contributing to educational reform through his association with the CBSE, NPSC, and the Child Education Society (CES).
The event began with a red-carpet welcome, a poem by the Student Council, a traditional tilak and kalash ritual, and floral tributes by the youngest learners. Sehgal was joined by his wife, Neelam Sehgal, and family, making the occasion especially memorable.
The gathering was graced by eminent dignitaries including Nikhil Channa, president, CES; Kanishk Khullar, vice president, CES; Meenu Goswami, director, CES Impact Accelerator; CES founder members; and principals of other Bal Bharati schools. Alumni, PTA members, and representatives from the wider education community also paid tribute.
A cultural programme showcased dances, music, drama and a vibrant flash mob, alongside the planting of a Gulmohar and Tulsi sapling to symbolise continuity and new beginnings. A newsletter, Chronicle: Fond Remembrances, featuring heartfelt tributes from staff and students, was released to commemorate his legacy.
Speeches by dignitaries and alumni highlighted his pioneering leadership, while Sehgal, in an emotional address, credited his family’s support as integral to his success. The ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by the new Principal, Deepak Dua, who pledged to uphold and build upon the legacy left by his predecessor.
Sehgal’s farewell ended with staff forming a human chain, as he departed amidst tears, applause and blessings — a testament to a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.
