Bangalore International School, Bengaluru is an international co-educational school affiliated with the Cambridge Assessment International Education (CAIE), UK and the International Baccalaureate (IB), Geneva.
Formerly known as American Community School, BIS was founded by Eloise R. Bennett in 1969 to cater to the relatively large population of American and Canadian families who resided in Bangalore then. It is one of those few schools in the country which practices a system of inclusive education, thereby ensuring that children with diverse needs are given individual attention. The school encourages personal expression and experimentation. Besides doing well academically, the students participate in international sporting and cultural events, winning laurels for the school in the process, besides engaging in community services.
The school is located on a two acre campus comprising of two academic blocks and an administrative block. Its bright open classrooms provide congenial atmosphere for learning and fun-filled activities. Within the academic block there is a well-equipped library and multimedia centre. This block also houses the science laboratories apart from facilities for fine arts and pottery. The campus also has a basket ball court, a tennis court, sports ground, a swimming pool and a tuck shop.

The early year programmes at this school comprises pre-primary, lower kindergarten and upper kindergarten.
The elementary school based on the Cambridge International Primary Programmes encompasses grades I to V. From grade III to VIII, all students appear for the Cambridge University Starter Award Programme which is given on the basis of their IT skills and knowledge. At this stage, the students study mathematics, English, social studies, science and as a second language they have to choose between French, German, Spanish and Hindi.
The middle school at Bangalore International School includes grades VI to VIII. These three years are used to help prepare students for the Cambridge University Checkpoint Exam which is taken at the end of grade VIII, and lays the foundation for high school.
The high school includes grades IX to XII. In grades IX and X, students follow the Cambridge International General Certificate for Secondary Education programme, which culminates with an examination at the end of grade X. In grades XI and XII, students have the option of either taking up the CIE-A level examination or the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.
Extracurricular:
The school provides co-curricular and extracurricular activities like swimming, tennis, physical education, computers, art, dance, pottery and home economics, besides music, film appreciation and theatre for middle school which evokes great enthusiasm among students.

Admission form can be downloaded from the school website or collected from the school office. A duly filled in application form must be submitted along with the previous academic year final report card. The school follows a rolling admission policy where students are enrolled throughout the academic year for all grades except grades X and XII. Students are accepted into these two years only if they are from the same academic board and their subject choices align with what the school offers.
Children between the ages of two years six months and three years are eligible for admission to pre-primary grade. Admission into subsequent grades is determined on the basis of the student’s performance. Entrance test is required for English and maths.
Fees:
Minimum annual fee is 70,000 and maximum is 1, 30,000 INR.
