Bengal: CBI submits school job irregularities report to Calcutta HC

Calcutta High court

On Tuesday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) presented its findings to the Calcutta High Court concerning the alleged irregularities in the recruitment process for teaching and non-teaching staff in state-run schools across West Bengal. This investigation stems from an order issued by the high court instructing the CBI to look into the accusations of improprieties in the School Service Commission’s (SSC) recruitment procedures.

Concurrently, the SSC submitted an affidavit to the court outlining its stance on the rescission of appointments for several candidates due to purportedly illicit recruitments. The court, presided over by a division bench led by Justice Debangsu Basak, received the CBI’s report. This division bench, established at the direction of the Supreme Court, is overseeing petitions and appeals related to the selection of candidates for teaching positions in classes 9-12, as well as the recruitment of group-C and group-D staff for the year 2016.

The division bench, which also includes Justice Mohammed Shabbar Rashidi, determined that the matter will be scheduled for a hearing on January 15. This ongoing legal process underscores the significance of addressing concerns surrounding the recruitment practices in state-run schools in West Bengal and ensuring transparency and fairness in the selection of teaching and non-teaching staff.
