On Tuesday, the Bengaluru Traffic Police booked 23 school vehicle drivers for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
During a special drive from 7 am to 9 am, 3016 school vehicles were checked, and 23 drivers tested positive for alcohol, according to police reports.
They were prosecuted under the Motor Vehicles Act, stated Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic) MN Anucheth. The drivers’ licenses were sent to the respective Regional Transport Offices for further action.
Anucheth added that 11 vehicles were found without fitness certificates during the drive, and these cases will be referred to the relevant RTOs. He emphasized that such special drives will continue regularly to ensure the safety of students and other road users.
