Dr Bhau Daji Lad Museum has organised a free Online Science Session,”From Pinholes to Pixels” in English on Thursday, 26 September, 2024 and in Hindi on Monday, 30 September, 2024 between 11 am – 12 pm for students enrolled in Grade 5 – 7.
The session, via Zoom, is conceptualised by the BDL Museum in collaboration with STEAM Academy, founded by Dr. A.P. Jayaraman. The talk will be delivered by award winning producer, director, editor, and cinematographer Jimmy Andrews with an introduction by the Museum’s education team.
Mr Andrews will enlighten students on the evolution of photography : the history of the cameras began even before the advent of photography.
The earliest cameras didn’t produce photographs; instead, they projected images onto screens or surfaces. From the modest camera obscura to today’s advanced selfie cameras, the evolution of photography has been an extraordinary journey.
Mr Andrews will also explore how innovations in science and technology have transformed the way we capture our memories.
It may be noted that the Bhau Daji museum’s collection of photographs and watercolours offers an insightful case study in the multivalent aspects of colonial medical photography.
