Shri Govind Hari Singhania Centre for Advanced Learning, the Skill School of Sir Padampat Singhania Education Centre (SPSEC), Kanpur, has made a pioneering stride in this direction with the establishment of a state-of-the-art Vedic Mathematics Lab, developed in collaboration with Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University (CSJMU), Kanpur.

This visionary initiative is more than just a laboratory — it is a movement to revive, reimagine, and reintroduce the ancient Indian mathematical heritage into classrooms in a way that resonates with contemporary educational goals and national frameworks such as the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
The collaboration with CSJMU is grounded in the vision of bridging traditional wisdom and modern education, as advocated in NEP 2020. The university partnership plays a pivotal role in several key areas — curriculum development tailored for primary through secondary levels, training and mentoring of faculty at the Skill School, conducting live sessions and demonstrations, creating assessment tools, and launching undergraduate certification courses in Vedic Mathematics. These initiatives ensure academic rigour, relevance, and innovative pedagogy.

The Vedic Mathematics Lab rests on strong educational objectives. It aims to instill mathematical confidence among students by minimising mathematics anxiety and introducing engaging computational methods. It fosters mental agility, promotes analytical and logical thinking, and aligns Vedic techniques with mainstream CBSE/ICSE/UP Board curricula. The lab also serves as a hub for research and innovation, comparing Vedic and modern methods, building teacher capacity, and creating scalable digital learning models for wider accessibility.

To ensure age-appropriate and scalable learning, the lab operates on a tiered framework. At the primary level (Grades III–V), students develop number sense and learn basic arithmetic shortcuts. The middle level (Grades VI–VIII) introduces algebraic expressions, division, and multiplication strategies through Vedic sutras. The secondary level (Grades IX–X) explores algebra, geometry, and competitive exam-oriented applications of Vedic methods. Each tier is supported by custom-designed Vedic Mathematics textbooks authored by the Skill School faculty, offering a structured and enriching learning experience.

In pursuit of inclusive and equitable education, the Skill School is expanding the reach of the Vedic Mathematics Lab through digital initiatives such as online modules, virtual classrooms, webinars, and interactive video lessons. Special training programmes for rural and underprivileged students are also being developed, ensuring that the benefits of this ancient knowledge are accessible to all, regardless of geographical or economic constraints.

A notable milestone of the initiative is the launch of undergraduate certification courses in Vedic Mathematics through SPSEC’s Skill School in partnership with CSJMU. These programmes offer academic credentials, encourage research in Indian knowledge systems, and enhance employability in fields such as education, content development, and educational technology.

Since its inception, the Vedic Mathematics Lab has produced transformative outcomes across several dimensions. Students demonstrate increased accuracy, speed, and interest in mathematics. Teachers report improved strategies and subject depth. The curriculum now seamlessly integrates Vedic concepts, promoting critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Community engagement has grown through workshops and outreach programmes, reflecting the lab’s wide-reaching impact.

The Vedic Mathematics Lab represents a model of NEP 2020 in action, emphasising holistic education, integration of India’s cultural heritage, skill-based learning, and pedagogical innovation. This initiative is an embodiment of SPSEC’s vision to nurture curious, competent, and compassionate learners who are equipped not only to succeed academically but to thrive in all facets of life.
