Brightlands School is a co-educational English medium school founded in 1958 and affiliated with the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE), New Delhi. Popularly known as Brightlands, this private school offers classes from nursery through class XII and houses around 1700 students. Originally promoted as a school that offered only primary education, Brightlands has now achieved a senior secondary status and boasts remarkable academic results year on year.
One of the oldest schools in Dehradun, the school’s academic excellence has placed it among the top achievers’ list of schools in the country. Brightlands secured the first and second positions in the ICSE (Class X) board examinations at the national level in 2003, with an aggregate score of 97.6 percent and 97.4 percent respectively. The school secured the all India first and second positions in 2005 in the ISC (Class XII) board examinations, with an aggregate score of 97.5 and 97.25 percent respectively.
In 2010, students did the school proud again, securing an average of 89 percent in both ICSE and ISC examinations.
Located along the foothills of the Himalayas across the picturesque Doon valley, Brightlands campus spreads over 10,000 square meters, offering sufficient space for games, sports and other co-curricular activities.
The school hosts bright, spacious and well-ventilated classrooms, well equipped science and computer laboratories, a well stocked library, spacious fields for outdoor sports such as cricket, basketball, football, and volleyball. Indoor games like badminton, table tennis and chess are also facilitated by the school.
Affiliated with CISCE, Brightlands conducts the ICSE examinations at the end of class X and the ISC exams at the end of class XII. The academic year at the school is divided into two terms – while the first term commences in the first week of April and ends in the fourth week of September, the second term commences in the third week of October and terminates in the third week of March.
Scholarships are offered to meritorious students who have passed the ICSEexams from Brightlands and aspire to pursue senior secondary education at the school. Aspiring candidates need to have attained at least 93 percent in the overall total, with 93 percent in English as well. The scholarship covers the tuition fee of class XII and is applicable from the month of April of the year of admission.
Extracurricular: The school offers sports such as cricket, basketball, football, volleyball, badminton, table tennis and chess. Yoga, aerobics and karate also form part of the school agenda.
Active participation is seen in student clubs promoted by the school, like the English Elocution Club, English Dramatics, the English Spell-Well Club, Quizzing Club, Numerical Ability Club, and Computer Club, among others.

Registration forms for admission to Brightlands are issued from July to September. Every year in February, an entrance test is conducted at the school for candidates seeking admission. Admissions are determined on the basis of performance in the test and interview results.

Over the years, students have brought many laurels to Brightlands at inter-school, inter-state as well as at national level competitions. Two Brightlands students became national champions at the prestigious ‘National Quiz Competition.
Business Stimulation ExerciseThe Brightlands team did the school proud attaining the all India 8th rank in the B.S.E. (Business Stimulation Exercise) competition organized by King’s University, Ontario, Canada.
Brightlands was conferred with ‘The Best Performance School’ award for the sixth time in a row by the NSTSE conducted by the Unified Council.
